The city of Woodbridge, VA, is located a little over 20 miles southwest of Washington, D.C., and close to some of the most important urban and nature destinations in the northeastern United States. Whether you are looking for a place to spend some time checking out museums and landmark buildings, or a quaint spot to breathe some fresh air and enjoy nature, these are some great day trips you can go on from the Woodbridge area.

1. Washington, D.C.

Without a doubt, Washington, D.C. is the most popular day trip destination among Woodbridge residents. Home to some of the most famous buildings and monuments in the entire world, the capital of the United States is a city that has something to offer for all visitors. Although a day trip is too short to discover all the attractions D.C. has to offer, it is enough to check out the main landmarks of the city.

Driving from downtown Woodbridge to Washington, D.C. takes about half an hour, heading northeast along routes I-95 and I-395. Once you make your way to the city, it is a good idea to find a parking spot near one of the metro stations and either walk or use the public transport system to get around. Besides the Capitol, the White House, the Washington Monument, and other famous buildings, we recommend you check out the Smithsonian Museums spread across the city.

2. Alexandria

Known for its charming Old Town, featuring brick sidewalks and a vibrant cultural life, the city of Alexandria is located along the western shores of the Potomac River, just a few miles south of Washington, D.C. The historic center of this beautiful colonial town is relatively small and can be easily explored on foot, making it a great day trip destination for residents of Woodbridge and other urban areas in the region.

Driving from downtown Woodbridge to Alexandria takes about 25 minutes by car, heading northeast along route I-95. Once you get to the city, it is a good idea to find a parking spot either in the Old Town or close to the railway station, from where you can easily walk to the main attractions of the area. Some places you should not miss include the Alexandria Waterfront, the Old Town Farmers’ Market, and the cafés and restaurants along King Street.

3. Prince William Forest Park

Covering an area of about 16,000 acres and located just 10 miles southwest of downtown Woodbridge, Prince William Forest Park is the best day trip destination for visitors wanting to go for a relaxing walk in nature and enjoy some quiet time away from the city. This expansive forest park covers about 16,000 acres of territory and was established in 1936 by the National Park Service. Getting here from Woodbridge takes about 15 minutes by car along route I-95.
