1. Enjoy Outdoor Activities in Leesylvania State Park

The Leesylvania State Park is a great place to take your kids to enjoy 556 acres of outdoor activities along the Potomac River. Go fishing, paddling, and boating, build sandcastles on the sandy beach, and explore the beautiful surroundings on miles of hiking trails, including a 20 station fitness trail.

The Breakwater Marina offers boat, paddle, and pedal craft rentals, and there is a boat ramp, a snack bar, a store, and a fishing pier. The park is at 2001 Daniel K. Ludwig Drive and opens at 6. am to a half-hour before sunset on Mondays to Fridays, and on Saturdays and Sundays, the park opens at 5 a.m.

2. Climb, Swing, Tunnel, and Slide at the Fantasy Playground

The beautiful wooden Fantasy Playground at 12298 Cotton Mill Drive was constructed by 1,400 volunteers in 1999 and is one of the most wonderous kiddie play areas in the region. Here your little ones can explore a sprawling wooden castle through a labyrinth of secret passageways and tunnels designed to trigger the imagination.

There are swings and slides, a sandpit, and a large open area for running around. The structures provide plenty of shaded play areas, and the entire playground is surrounded by a wooden fence to keep the children safely inside.

3. Learn More About Prince William County History

The Rippon Lodge Historic Site on 15520 Blackburn Road has played an essential part in Prince William County history since 1747. The colonial home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the second oldest residence in the county. The house is surrounded by 43-acres of beautiful formal gardens and the Blackburn and Atkinson Family cemetery.

Learn more about the families who lived in the house and stroll through the picturesque gardens and woodlands and down the walking trails to enjoy spectacular views of the Potomac River. The grounds are open sunrise to sunset, and tours are offered by appointment May to October on Thursday to Monday from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.
