1. Leesylvania State Park Campsites

The 556-acre Leesylvania State Park at 2001 Daniel K. Ludwig Drive here in Woodbridge has small but beautiful camp areas on the banks of the Potomac River, ideal spots for a secluded getaway. The park has tents-only primitive campsites and one exclusively for paddlers. The tent areas have picnic tables, benches, lantern hooks, large fire pits with grill tops, and firewood is provided at each site.

All the camp areas are within walking distance of the park’s recreational activities. From your campsite, you can explore the beautiful scenery on miles of trails, fish from a boat or the 300-foot pier for largemouth and striped bass, perch, and catfish, and soak up the sun on the sandy beach. The Breakwater marina rents boats, canoes, and kayaks and has a well-stocked store and snack bar.

2. Pohick Bay Regional Park Campsites

It’s a short 6.4-mile hop and a skip to 5400 Ox Road in Fairfax Station to camp in the scenic beauty of the 1,000-acre Pohick Bay Regional Park. The camp area has 150 shaded sites with electricity, or you can choose between deluxe and rustic cabins with electricity, air conditioning and heat, and a small refrigerator. There’s also a camp store open daily with everything you need.

Campers can paddle, hike, bike, and horseback ride, splash around at Pirate’s Cove Waterpark, and play golf on one of Virginia’s most picturesque 18-hole golf courses. There are also challenging miniature and disc golf courses. The park rents pedal boats, single and double kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards, and you can wet your hook in the bay and Potomac River to reel in largemouth and striped bass, bluegill, perch, carp, crappie, and catfish.

3. Prince William Forest Campsites

Camp deep in the woods of Prince William Forest, a 15.6-mile drive away at 18170 Park Road in Triangle and discover the real beauty of Virginia. The Oak Ridge camp area is open from March to November and offers tent and RV sites without hookups, but each site has a lantern, table, and grill. The sites are near restroom facilities with showers and flush toilets.

If you are serious about getting away from it all, hike down the 2.5-mile loop trail, pitch your tent in the Chopawamsic Backcountry Area between March and November, and enjoy the peaceful tranquility of this secluded and remote area deep in the forest.

You’re spoiled for choice with excellent camp areas in beautiful natural surroundings on your doorstep. Swing by Koons Woodbridge Ford today and test drive a 2022 Ford Escape, a small SUV with a roomy cabin and a range of helpful tech features.
